With RGSG Nanjing continuing to grow and expand, their Principal, Mr Matthew Ford, sought assistance in guiding the newly elected Senior Prefect Team as they stepped into their leadership roles. To provide support, the Senior Prefect Team from RGS Guildford took the opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge with their counterparts in China.
School Captain, Charlie Everitt, Senior Prefect Coordinator, Harry Simmons, and Valpy House Captain, Soj Ghosh, all from RGS Guildford, were enthusiastic about the chance to pass on their wisdom. Eager to help, they participated in a video call that bridged the distance between the two schools, offering valuable advice and insight based on their own experiences as leaders.
The call began with Charlie, Harry, and Soj introducing themselves and outlining the selection process for the Senior Prefect Team. They took the time to explain how the Senior Prefect Team is chosen at RGS Guildford and highlighted the responsibilities that come with the role. They then moved on to describe their individual duties in more detail, sharing how the Senior Prefect Team collaborates effectively to meet the needs of both students and teachers. In addition to fulfilling requests from teachers, the Prefect Team also takes initiative, developing and organising their own projects to improve school life.
Throughout the conversation, the three Senior Prefects fielded questions from the Senior Prefect Team at RGSG Nanjing. Topics ranged from the challenges the Prefect Team have faced, such as balancing responsibilities with academic demands. They also shared tips on fostering participation in extra-curricular sports and activities, emphasising the importance of inclusivity and student engagement in school life.
As the video call drew to a close, Charlie, Harry, and Soj offered words of encouragement to the prefects in China, reminding them that, despite being thousands of miles apart, Senior Prefects in both schools face similar challenges and rewards. Their shared experiences reinforced the idea that leadership is a universal journey, one that is shaped by the same joys, obstacles, and growth, regardless of location.
